Progress on the main span continues with the removal of heavy equipment to clear the road deck for grinding and the eventual placement of the polyester-concrete road surface. A month ago, the two derrick cranes that constructed the portion of the main span between the towers were removed.
Now that much of the work at the connection of the main span to the approach structures is completed, the two remaining derrick cranes were disassembled this week, and large pieces such as the boom in the foreground of photo above were taken away. With the derrick cranes removed, it’s now possible to look across the whole of the 2,000-foot main span for the first time.
