ANNOUNCEMENTS
In what has been a series of recent milestones on the Bridge Project, the orange MSS just added one more last week when the massive machine conducted its final concrete pour. On Wednesday, approximately three dozen crew members laid down the road deck of the final segment of the eastbound incline that leads up to the end bent, where the approach will meet the end span (the section between the final column and the tower).
With this final concrete pour and subsequent post-tensioning of the segment, the construction of the approaches on the Terminal Island side of the Bridge Project will be complete.
In the video above, crew members busily spread the concrete that comes from a powerful pump over the rebar. This work must be done quickly to keep the concrete from settling. A smoothing machine comes over the placed concrete to create what will become the flat road surface. All together, the pour lasted more than 8 hours.
