Bridge Project Highlighted at State of the Port

On Wednesday, the Port of Long Beach held its annual State of the Port event at the Long Beach Convention Center with more than 700 attendees. While goods movement, collaboration and innovation were top themes at the event, in his keynote address, Executive Director Mario Cordero highlighted the Port’s investments into capital improvements, including the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement Project that is set to open later this year.

During his remarks, Mr. Cordero referred to the project as the “Bridge to Everywhere,” reinforcing the idea that 15 percent of the nation’s imported waterborne cargo is trucked over it, headed for destinations all over the United States.

If you click on the link above, there is a video playback of the event. At approximately the one‑hour mark, the Bridge Project is covered along with a terrific aerial video of its current progress. In it, you can see how close the main span is to the top of the approach structures and connecting in the middle. Plus, you will see the steady placement of one of the huge edge girders that connects the main span to the end bent on the south side of the new bridge.
